Walter O'Brien's own bio, on his company's "Founder" page (2014) — the credential the whole persona stands on, in his own words, as quoted by Techdirt. The same URL today lands on a bio that says only “high IQ child prodigy.” The number has left the building.
What you are about to observe is a rare inversion of the usual sequence. Most specimens earn a reputation and then a television deal. This one secured the television deal — a network drama, "inspired by a true story" — and asked the reputation to arrive later, on trust, at the speed of prime time.

It finds the registered company listed as a single employee at roughly $66,000 revenue, headquartered at a UPS Store — against O'Brien's claim of 2,600 employees and $1.3 billion. It notes that no published "highest IQ" list includes his name.
Note the plumage. Not "a smart man." Not "a gifted programmer." The fourth-smartest human alive, a figure precise to the unit and sourced to nothing. In the wild, a display this specific is either backed by a certificate or it is the entire animal.

Fast Company runs O'Brien's response to the scrutiny under the headline "Hackers vs. Scorpion." He stands by the accomplishments and frames the show as dramatized entertainment rather than documentary. The recurring answer to demands for specifics: much of the work sits behind non-disclosure agreements he cannot break.
The NDA is an elegant adaptation. It makes the absence of evidence look like the presence of a secret. The field cannot disprove what it is not permitted to see — which is, of course, the point.
